Son of David and Lucinda (nee Creason) Thomson.

From the 15 Mar 1917 edition of The Jasper news (Jasper, MO):

"Death of Wm. Thomson.

Wm. Thomson, a resident of this section of Jasper County since 1875, died at his home here last Friday after a long period of ill health. Mr. Thomson was nearly 88 years of age and was born in Kentucky. From Kentucky the family moved to Ray County, Mo., in an early day, and in 1875 Mr. Thomson brought his family here and located on a farm 5 miles west of Jasper. About 15 years ago deceased and his wife moved to Jasper, Mrs. Thomson passing away about two years ago.

During tht [sic] last four or five years deceased has been confined to his home much of the time, and since his wife's death has been constantly cared for by his granddaughter, Miss Nellie Thomson, whs [sic] has made her home with her grandparents for several years.

Deceased was a member of the M. E. Church, South, and before his health failed was very faithful in attendance upon its services. His long residence here made him a wide circle of friends.

Besides a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren Mr. Thomson is survived by three sons and two daughters, as follows: D. P. Thomson of Kansas City, J. L. Thomson of Sarcoxie, Frank Thomson and Mrs [sic] John Cather of Frederick, Okla., and Mrs. Sophie Gooding of Livermore, Colo.

The funeral was help [sic] at the home last Sunday morning at 10:30, the service conducted by Rev. C. A. Lewis, a former pastor of Mr. Thomson's. The body was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Jasper Masonic Cemetery.

The choir was composed of Mrs. A. F. Drake, Misses Snoda Vincent and Grace Teeter., H. A. Vincent and H. J. Deardorff.

The pallbearers were Messrs. J. W. Crandall, C. L. Hayzlett, W. S. Tabler, J. E. Cather, John W. Spaid, J. R. Bowers."


William McCann Thomson first married Sarah Ann Holman on 11 Mar 1848 in Ray County, Missouri. To this union, the following children were born:

William Jess Thomson (a.k.a., Walter Hare) (1854 - 1896)

A decree of divorce was granted in 1854 in Ray County, MO in favor of William.

William then married Mary Brody on 13 February 1855 in Knoxville, Ray County, Missouri. To this union, the following children were born:

Eleanor L. Thomson Stafford (1860 - 1902)
Rachel Thomson (1862 - ?)
Nellie Irma Thomson Cather
Lucy L. Thomson (1866- ?)

William died of chronic interstitial nephritis (refer to Missouri death certificate no. 10876).
