Emma Goehner, 88, a resident of Gig Harbor and a former resident of Dryden for over 82 years, died Thursday, August 13, 2009, at Gig Harbor. She was born on January 12, 1921, to John and Mary (Lentz) Krause at Dryden. After completing her education at Dryden, Emma married Albert F. Goehner on August 25, 1940, at the Dryden Community Church, where she was a charter member. The couple continued to live in the Peshastin/Dryden area, where in 1952, they purchased an orchard, and in 1958, built their home. Emma was a homemaker, raising their six children, but later went to work for Blue Star Growers in Cashmere, as a fruit sorter. Emma loved spending time with her family, especially camping and fishing around Whidbey Island.
She is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis Furlong of Gig Harbor and Mary Culp of Weatherford, TX; four sons, Warren Goehner of Wenatchee, Dennis Goehner of Arizona City, AZ, Kevin Goehner of Wenatchee and Leon Goehner of Longview, WA; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert in 1996; five brothers; four sisters; an infant son and daughter; and a grandson.
A Funeral Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Emma Goehner, will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the Dryden Community Church in Dryden. Concluding Service and Interment will be in the Cashmere City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, 2009, at Ward's Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Emma's name, to the charity of one's choice. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth is in charge of the arrangements.
