EDITH M. WORTHEN
Edith M. Worthen, 80, of 2015 Lindell Ave., Murphysboro, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1976, in Vincennes, Ind., at the home of her daughter.
She was born Jan. 8, 1896, in Willisville, to Joseph W. and Effie Slusher Higgerson. She married Clyde Worthen on July 6, 1914, in East St. Louis. He died Nov. 23, 1967.
She was a member of the Pentecostal Church in Grimsby.
Survivors are sons, Grover of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., and Wayne of Chicago; daughters, Elizabeth Davitz of Murphysboro, Fern Witaker of Vincennes, Ind., Louise Cagle of Loomis, Calif., Ruby Noble of Atlanta, Ga., Billie Ruth Coulter of Granada Hills, Calif., and Delores "Pat" Provart of Du Quoin; sisters, Annalee Grosvenor, Emma Browder, and Dehlia Easton, all of Murphysboro; brothers, Chester Higgerson, of Murphysboro, Earl Higgerson of Denver, Colo., and Joseph Higgerson of Dupo; and 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Denny and Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro. Irene Chaney will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery near Ava.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
