Michael F. Grimm, 58, of Decatur, died suddenly on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at 10:50 a.m. at Adams Memorial Hospital's emergency room due to a pulmonary embolism.
Mike was born on May 16, 1950 in Portage, Indiana, to Robert I. and Iva Doye (Franklin) Grimm. He married Carol E. Smith on October 27, 1973.
Mike is survived his wife, Carol E. Grimm; his mother, Iva Doye Grimm of Portage; three children, Mrs. Brian (Megan) Jewell of Osan Air Base in Korea; Mrs. Jason (Carrie) Griggs of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; and David M. Grimm of Neptune Beach, Florida; two sisters: Mrs. Joseph (Judy) Burleson of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Mrs. Burt (Lisa) Nowers of Nashville, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his father, Robert I. Grimm.
Mike was a member of First United Methodist Church in Decatur. He was a teacher for 35 years in the Fort Wayne Community School System. He loved sports, camping, and carpentry, but above all, he loved his family. He was a fighter, surviving several surgeries and two transplants.
Visitation will be from noon-6 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2008, at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2008, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ken Mahan and Pastor Loren Felabom officiating. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.
