Jessie Bailey Jackson, 90, of Springdale, Arkansas, died on August 16, 2009, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. She was born on April 14, 1919, in Andrix, Colorado. She was the daughter of Leander and Ethel Winfrey Bailey. Jessie was the third child of six children: she had two brothers, Robert and Melvel, and three sisters, Inez, Margie, and Dortha. Jessie attended school in Andrix, Colorado until 1935 when her family moved to the Siloam Springs area where she completed high school at the John Brown Academy. Following high school she completed her nurses training at the John Brown University Hospital and became a licensed practical nurse (LPN). She married Garland Jackson on July 3, 1940, in Siloam Springs. She was a nurse at the Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital for many years, primarily working in obstetrics. In the late 1960's she gave up her nursing career to become the director of the Community Action Program under the Office of Economic Opportunity in Siloam Springs. She retired from full time work after the death of her husband, Garland, in 1973. In 1974 she married Clint Hayes and was married to him for 35 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Siloam Springs.
Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Garland Jackson to whom she was married for 33 years, two brothers-Robert Bailey and Melvel Bailey, and a son-in-law Bud D. Henry.
She is survived by daughter Fran Henry, daughter Karen Gabel and husband Jim, son Todd Jackson and wife Jill, son Tabb Jackson and wife Perri; ten grandchildren-Heather Henry Clausen, Bobbi Henry Woods, Bud Douglas Henry, Jimmy Gabel, Brandon Gabel, Courtney Jackson, Kelsey Jackson, Ashley Jackson Long, Jordan Jackson, Kayce Jackson; five great grandchildren-Jonathan Woods, Jaycee Woods, Addison Gabel, Emily Gabel, and Kale Garland Jackson; her husband Clint Hayes; and two sisters-Margie Ames and Dortha Fingerlin.
