Emil Schmidt Sheboygan Press March 16, 1940

Chilton, Wis – (Special) – Emil H. Schmidt, aged 53, passed away at 10 a.m. Friday after an illness of five months' duration.

Deceased was born November 30, 1886, in Schleswig township, Manitowoc County, the son of Franz and Augusta Schmidt, and was confirmed at Louis Corners Lutheran church in 1900 by the Rev. Martin Denninger. On December 3, 19123, he was married to Miss Minnetta Luehrs at the Ebenezer Reformed parsonage.

Mr. Schmidt learned the butcher trade at School Hill from Mr. Karbreck, and a few years later was employed by the late Mr. Seyfert, later taking over this business. In 1923, he and his brother, August bought the Center Meat Market in this city from Peter Lauer, and was actively engaged in this business until he became ill five months ago. He was vice-president and director of the State Bank of Chilton, a member of the Fraternal Order Eagles and elder of the Ebenezer Reformed Church. His father preceded him in death several years ago and since that time his mother lived at St. Nazianz.

Survivors are the widow; two children, Robert and Helen, both at home; one sister, Mrs. Frieda Knorr of Medford, Wis., and six brothers, Carl and William of New Holstein, Fred of Sheboygan, August of Chilton, Arthur of Sherwood and Otto of Manitowoc. One child passed away in infancy and a brother passed away June 30, 1931.

Funeral services will be held at the Pfeffer Funeral home, the Rev. E. L. Henning officiating. Interment will be in the New Holstein cemetery.
