Robert Wallace Ferguson

Our Community was shocked and saddened on Wednesday morning, when we learned that Wallace Ferguson was found dead near his home. He had left the house only a few minutes before to do his usual morning work, and when he did not return, his daughter, Emma went out to look for him and found him dead.

Wallace Ferguson was born in East Springfield, February 9th 1855, the son of James and Adeline Bowker Ferguson. In his early life, Mr. Ferguson was a farmer at Henderson, Warren, and at the family homestead in Wast Springfield. They lived in Middlefield for nearly forty years and about ten years ago he and Mrs. Ferguson came to Schuyler Lake.

He joined the Presbyterian church when a young man. Since that time whether a member of that church or the Methodist church here in Schuyler Lake, he was a devout Christian and a faithful worker. His cheerful smile and active interest in community affairs continued until the day of his death.

He leaves to mourn his death, his aged wife, who has been in poor health for some time, two daughters, Emma Louise, and Mary Elma, one son, James Leland of Poultney, Vt., also a sister, Mrs. Fannie Barnes of the Clara Welch Home in Cooperstown and at present confined to the M.I.B. Hospital; four grandchildren, Arthur Green of Buffalo, and Ernest, Alta Jean and Greta Ferguson of Poultney, Vt.; a third daughter, Mrs. Alma Jean Green, died twenty years ago. he also leaves several cousins.

The funeral will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. from the M.E. church, the Rev. Charles Sabin officiating, with interment in Westville cemetery.

He was one of the oldest residents and will be sadly missed as he was seen in the streets nearly every day and often called on his neighbors to chat with them for a while. Much sympathy is felt for his wife and family in the passing of this good man.
