US Air Force Major General. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he graduated from the US Military Academy in 1924 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Corps. He completed flight training as a pilot in 1929, was assistant post adjutant of the Air Corps Training Center Kelly Field in 1931 and was a squadron commander of the 18th Pursuit Group at Wheeler Field, Hawaii, in the late 1930s. In 1940, he was assigned to Air Corps headquarters in Washington, D.C., as assistant budget officer. During World War II, he served as chief budget officer for Air Materiel Command at Wright-Patterson and was deputy chief of a branch in the Budget Office Air Corps Headquaters. In 1947, he was promoted Brigadier General director of the budget at US Air Force headquarters Washington D.C. From 1949 to 1953, he was commanding general of the 1503rd Air Transport Wing of Military Air Transport Service at Tokyo, Japan. He assumed command of the 3750th Technical Training Wing at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, in 1954 and stayed in position until he retired as a Major General on July 31, 1957. His son was NASA Astronaut Edward H. White II.
