Edward Alexander

Edward Alexander, 47, Phillips, Tex., born on a farm northeast of Tipton, where he spent his early life, died Monday midnight in a hospital in Rochester, Minn., where he had been at the Mayo clinic. He was a member of a widely known Tipton family.

For a period of 17 years he had been ailing, and after being hospitalized at various periods, returned to the Mayo clinic three weeks preceding death.

The body was take to Phillips for funeral services and burial.

Mr. Alexander was a son of A.K. and Clara Alexander and was born Aug. 23, 1912. In August, 1940, he married Miss Dixie Duke, of Phillips, who survives together with Two sons, Edward, 18, and Drew, 14, all of the home in Phillips; his mother, Mrs. Clara Alexander, and a brother, Albert Alexander, both of Tipton; two sisters, Mrs. Al 'Ruth' Gibson, Boonville, and Mrs. Florence Ruffner, Tipton; and an uncle, Tom D. Briscoe, and a cousin, Jimmie Briscoe, both of Tipton. He was preceded in death by his father in 1954 and a sister, Dorothy, at the age of eight.

Mr. Alexander had been connected with the Phillips Petroleum Co. for 26 years and in 1939 was presented a 25-year diamond pin by the company.

He was a member of the Baptist Church at Tipton.

Funeral services for Edward A. Alexander will be held at 3 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church of Phillips. The Rev. C.N. Rue will officiate assisted by the Rev. Newton Daniel. Interment will follow in the Highland Park cemetery under the direction of the Simpson Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Leo Smithson, S.E. Newcomb, Paul Richardson, Slats Childress, Loy Frogge, Dr. M.E. Ingham, Ellis Young and O.B. Hunt. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of the Phillips Petroleum Company's Natural Gas Department.

Alexander, 46, died at 11:56 p.m. Wednesday in the Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota. An employee of the Phillips Petroleum Company for the past 26 years, he resided at 4 North Rice, Phillips.
