Anthony was a shipbuilder and ttaught the trade to his son, George. If his Vessels did not find a ready sale, he took them to sea and commandded his craft until he found a purchaser. For several years he engaged in a general transportation business between Europe, South America and the West Indies. Accompanied by his son, George he sailed to Wales in 1839 and brought back rails for the frist railway built in Maine.
