J.C. Barefoot

J.C. Barefoot, 84, of Lampasas died July 26, 2008, at his residence.

Funeral services are July 29 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lampasas with Dr. Rick Willis officiating. Burial will be at Senterfitt Cemetery in Lometa.

Mr. Barefoot was born July 20, 1924, at Bend in San Saba County, the son of James Fredrick and Margaret Lilith Morris Barefoot.

He attended school at Bend and married Bertha Louis Woytek on July 21, 1951, in Bishop.

Mr. Barefoot was a Civil Service employee in the maintenance department at Fort Hood for 28 years.

After retiring, he enjoyed working with his hands doing things like shelling pecans and cutting firewood.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lampasas, and Woodmen of the World, AFGE Local 1920.

As a younger man, Mr. Barefoot worked for the Atomic Energy Commission.

He is survived by his wife, of Lampasas; sons, Craig Barefoot and wife, Sheila, of Burnet, Frank Wakeman and wife, Doris, of Lampasas, and Gary Wakeman and wife, Kathy, of Whitman; a twin sister, Vera Dee Hosman, of Harker Heights; seven grandchildren, Gary Lee Wakeman, Ronald Wakeman, Jessica Barefoot, Travis Wakeman, Chad Hamann, Jason Wakeman and Justin Wakeman; eight great-grandchildren, Heather Hamann, Dustin Hamann, Harley Wakeman, Paxton Wakeman, Kaleigh Wakeman, Sheila Wakeman, Cody and Bradford; and a great-great-granddaughter, Kiley Montana Wakeman.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Mark, Morris and Neil; and by sisters, Gertrude and Lucille.
