Mrs. Chloe Curtis Chase was born October 7, 1897, at Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of John Thomas McCleerey and Anna May Flowers. She was first married to Orman Curtis and they had five children, Dean, Bernice, Beulah, James C. and BurdetteA. After Orman's death in 1934, she married Harry L. Chase December 18, 1945, in Worthington, Minnesota. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mrs. Chase, 83, died at National City, California, on April 11, 1981, after a long illness. She had been a resident of National City since 1972 and prior to that had lived in Cherokee. Survivors include sons James of Palmdale, California, Burdette of Burbank, California, and Dean of Henderson, Nevada, daughters, Mrs. Bernice Balzar of Sierra Madre, California, and Mrs. Beulah Snow of San Diego, 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Louise Colton of Des Moines, and two half-sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Orman Curtis in 1934, and her husband Harry L. Chase in 1972. Graveside services were held at Good Hope Cemetery north of Correctionville with Pastor Stanley Teller officiating. Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee has charge of arrangements.
