Mr. Baggett was born on September 3, 1938 in Shreveport, LA and passed away Monday, October 1, 2007, after a valiant battle with gastric cancer. He retired in 1998 from a successful and colorful career as a cryptologist and an electronics engineer. Early in his career he developed and implemented security systems for the United States Army, Navy, and Intelligence Systems. Later he was instrumental in developing digital and high-definition television.
Mr. Baggett was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in many church leadership positions in California, Georgia, Colorado, and Monroe, LA. He holds the Priesthood Office of Patriarch, and at his death he was serving as Second Counselor in the Monroe Stake Presidency.
Mr. Baggett was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Grest Baggett; his mother, Lutie Estelle Daniel; and four brothers, William Lee Baggett, Al Daniel Baggett, Sydney Lanier Baggett, and Oscar Rew Baggett.
Survivors include his wife and eternal sweetheart of more than forty-five years, Alice Louise Bower Baggett; and three children, Rebecca Allison Ruddick, Andre Joseph Baggett, and Amanda Marie Baggett; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Walker Ross, Ted Coenen, Philip Rice, Mark Smith, Dixon Able, and Tommy Hodnett. Honorary pallbearers will be J. K. Rogers, Bobby Smith, Leo Earl, and David Boyle.
Visitation will be Thursday evening, October 4, 2007, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
The family wishes to express gratitude for Dr. Stephen Beene and his entire staff, and to the staff of Hospice Care of Louisiana, especially Jessica, Mary, Robbie, Cindy, and Brenda. We are also grateful for the many cards, letters, calls, visits, and especially prayers from our friends and church members.
