Miss Ruth Wilson, aged 85, a retired accountant and long active in civic and charitable affairs of the city and county, died Friday, June 11 at the Boone County Hospital.

A lifelong resident of Boone County, she was born February 8, 1897 at Harrison, AR daughter of Warren and Pearl Horton Wilson.

She was a bookkeeper and accountant for Harrison Grocer Company for more than 50 years. She had taken a deposit for the grocer company to the Citizens Bank on the southwest corner of the square on the morning when Henry Starr attempted robbery of the bank in February, 1921. She was held as a hostage momentarily by a member of the gang as a shield during the ordeal, which Starr was shot by bank president W. J. Myers, Starr later dying.

Miss Wilson was active in the Salvation Army and Red Cross and other service organizations and during World War II assisted many servicemen and their families.

She served on the Harrison School Board and was president of the School Board in the 1950's.

She also served as secretary-treasurer of the Northwest Arkansas District Fair for many years.

Survivors include two sons, Henry Hamilton and Joe Hamilton, both of the home; a brother, Sam Wilson of Harrison; three sisters, Sue Pietsch of Harrison, Virginia Jackson of Ft. Scott, KA, Ora Lee McCoy of Gresham, OR.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, O. W. Wilson.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 14 at 10 a.m. at the Holt Memorial Chapel by Dr. Loyd Taylor with burial in Maplewood Cemetery under the direction of Holt's Funeral Home.

Pallbearers included: Sheridan Garrison, Tom Milburn, Joe Strickland, Donald Carl Murray, Roger V. Logan, Jr., Newell Foley, Bill Hall and Edwin McDonald.

Honorary pallbearers included Hilary Jones, Jim Evans, Glen Edgmon, Philip Moon, Russell Sharp, H. L. Gipson and Roy Nicholson.
