On Feb 15, 1941 he married young Reda Mae Raybourn only to be caught up in World War II after Dec 7, 1941. He served as a Tech Specialist in the 68th Anti-Aircraft Artillery in WWII, seeing action in North Africa, Italy (Anzio Beach Invasion) and in France during the latter stages of the war. He recalled marching into Rome.
Husband of Reda Mae Raybourn Ward. Children: William H. Ward, Gayle Elaine Ward Bergeron (15 Jan 1951-18 Aug 1980), Paul Edward Ward (4 Oct 1953-23 Jan 1999) and Anna Lynn Ward Ashley. Brothers: Leeman Ward, Hazel Wesley Ward, Leroy Ward, Lloyd Ward. Sisters: Ethel Neet Kohler, Anne Yost, Leona Maskew, Ola Ward Anthony, and Trudie Mae Ward Smith. (All brothers/sisters deceased as of 1987).
He worked over 30 years at the Paper Mill in Bogalusa, Louisiana during which time it was successively the Gaylord Container Corporation and the Crown Zellerbach Corporation. He was a deacon at the Palestine Baptist Church in Rio, Louisiana where he is buried. He was a devout Christian whose faith and stewardship were known by all of his acquaintance.
