"St. Bernard - Death of Mrs. Peter Bethenger (should be Bettinger), Sr. - Mrs. Peter Bethenger, sr., passed away Tuesday, May 27, at her home in Denver, Colo., after a lingering illness with diabetes. All that medical aid could do was done to ease her suffering. Last summer she spent about three months here for the benefit of her health. As Marie Jostes she was born on Feb. 15 in the year 1867, at Klassville, Ind. In 1888 (should be 1885) she was married to Peter Bethenger. To this union was born 11 (should be 14) children - 9 boys (should be 11) and 2 (should be 3) girls. One son Will preceded her in death a few years ago. They resided in Klassville, Ind., after which they moved to Platte county and settled here in our village. For a number of years theyoperated the post office. In 1905 they left St. Bernard and moved to Lindsay, then left Platte county and moved to Colorado. She is survived by her husband and 8 sons and 2 daughters - Agnes and Florence, at home, and the rest all living in Denver. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Henry Kaus, of St. Bernard, and four brothers, Clemence (should be Clemens) and Joe Jostes, of Denver, John Jostes, of Platte Center, and Geo. Jostes of Columbus. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church at Denver, Colo., on Saturday morning with burial in the Catholic cemetery there." (Humphrey Democrat, Humphrey, Nebraska)
