"John Jostes, 88, dies; funeral services Monday - HUMPHREY - (Special) John Jostes, 88, Humphrey, died Friday at a private rest home in Madison where he had been the past month. Mr. Jostes had been ill since July, and seriously ill the past three weeks. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Catholic church in Humphrey, with burial in Holy Family cemetery, Lindsay. The body is at the Duesman Mortuary where Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. He was born Nov. 12, 1870, in Klasevill (should be Klaasville) Ind., the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Jostes, and received his education in that community. He was a mail carier and came to Madison county to farm. On Nov. 28, 1901, he married Katie McPhillips. He farmed in Joliet township until 1915, and north of Platte Center until 1933 when he retired. He moved to Humphrey in 1934. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Ray of Platte Center and Leo of Madison; one daughter, Mrs. Joseph Schrant of Keensburg, Colo.; six grandchildren; one brother, George, San Gabriel, Calif.; and one sister, Mrs. Fred Wilhelm of Lexington.
