Birthdate, aside from being given as Nov. 29, 1852, is also given as Nov. 07, 1852, but Death Certificate, certified by his brother Andrew B. Groff shows his age as 57 years, 11 months, 07 days, with his date of death as Nov. 07, 1910. There also is an instance in a family record from about 1928 where his year of birth is given as 1853. Also, the death certificate states that he died on Nov. 6th of Dysentary of Gangrene of the feet, and
that his occupation was Laborer. I believe the Nov. 7th birthdate is an error that has been generally repeated as mistaking his death date and improperly propagated. The family records most frequently show the death date as Nov. 7th, 1910. Death certificate shows that he died in Wilmot, and that his attending physician's address is from New Hamburg.
He had three (possibly four) children, Nora, Matilda (also known as Tillie or Til), William, and Belva. He was married to Caroline/Carolina Schmidt.
I have very little information on Nora, and suspect she may have died very young while the family was in Cavalier County, ND, before the family moved back to Canada. The only record of Nora is the Ezra Eby book, which predates William and Belva, so it is possible that it was a typo in the Eby book.

Obituary from the Chronicle-Telegraph Nov 17, 1910 og 7 reads:
The death took place on Nov.
7th of Mr. Benjamin Groff at the age
of 58 years. The deceased who had
been in failing health for several
weeks left a short time ago to visit
his brother, Mr. Andrew Groff, near
Philipsburg, where he passed away.
The funeral took place on Tuesday
afternoon last from the family re-
sidence on Wilmot street to Trinity
Methodist church and then to River-
side cemetery - Rev. Mr. Wilson offi
ciated. A widow and three children
survive. -

A transcription of his gravestone by
the Ontario GS reads:
"Benjamin Groff / died Nov. 7, 1910 /
aged 57 yrs / 11 mos 19 dys"
which would put his birthdate at
November 19, 1852.
