There was an oral tradition in our family that Mary was the first woman doctor in Kansas, graduating from Kansas Medical College (now Washburn University) in Topeka, Kansas, in 1900, but I have received an email from Lin Fredericksen at the Kansas Historical Society that they have found Martha "Mattie" Cunningham graduated from medical school in 1886 in Chicago and was practicing medicine in Kansas before Mary was even in medical school. It is possible there were women doctors in Kansas before Dr. Cunningham but she is the earliest one they have verified so far.

In any event, Mary was the only female graduate from the class of 1900.

Some notes on Kansas Medical College which were sent to me (the school that Mary and Christopher Miller graduated from):

Kansas Medical College was founded in 1889 in Topeka, KS. It retained its name but became part of Washburn College (now Washburn University) in 1902 until 1913 when the Kansas Medical College merged with the University of Kansas Medical School. The first 2 women graduated in 1893, the 2nd graduating class.
