Mrs. Samuel Boyle Dies Unexpectedly
Active Clubwoman and Civic Worker Suffers Heart Attack Here.
Mrs. Mary Whitthorne Boyle, 57 years old, club woman and active for many years in social and civic circles here, died at 12:15 o'clock Sunday afternoon at St. Joseph's Infirmary. She was the widow of Samuel Boyle, former secretary-treasurer of the Louisville Railway Company, and former publisher of the Lexington Herald, who died two years ago.
Mrs. Boyle underwent an operation ten days ago.
She was born at Columbia, Tenn., the daughter of the late W. C. Whltthorne. United States Senator from Tennessee. She came to Louisville twenty-nine years ago. Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Boyle has been living at the Puritan Apartments.
When the present Woman's Club Building was being erected in 1923 and 1924 Mrs. Boyle was chairman of the stage committee. As assistant chairman of the library committee in 1923. when Mrs. Alex P. Humphrey donated a library. Mrs. Boyle had much to do with the artistic equipment of a room to house the gift, according to Mrs. Shackelford Miller, president of the club at that time.
Mrs. Boyle was a charter member of the Arts Club and a member of the Louisville Art Association, the Colonial Dames and the congregation of Christ Church Cathedral.
Mrs. Boyle is survived by two brothers, Judge W. C. Whitthorne of Columbia, and Campbell Whitthorne of San Francisco. Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Charles Cecil of Baltimore, Md. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at The Puritan. The body will be taken to Danville, Ky Tuesday morning for burial.

MRS SAMUEL G BOYLE FORMER LEXINGTONIAN DIES AT LOUISVILLE
LOUISVILLE March 35 (A)— Mrs Mary Whitthorne Boyle, widow of Samuel Gil Boyd formerly of Lexington died Sunday afternoon at St Joseph's Infirmary here. She was and for many years had played prominent part in social and civic circles of Louisville.
Her husband died two years ago. He was at that time secretary and treasurer of the Louisville Railway Company.
Mrs. Boyle underwent an operation 10 days ago. She apparently had rallied and was sitting up in bed eating lunch when she suffered a heart attack which proved fatal a few minutes later.
Mrs. Boyle a native of Columbia Tenn was the daughter of the late W C Whltthorne United States Senator from Tennessee. She came to Louisville from Lexington 39 yeas ago after her husband had sold The Lexington Herald to Desha Breckinridge.
Since the death of her husband Mrs Boyle had been living at the Puritan apartments. She was injured last fall in an automobile accident at Paris, France but this was not thought to have had any bearing on her death.
Mrs. Boyle is survived by two brothers; Judge W C Whitthorne of Columbia and Campbell Whitthorne at San Francisco, and two sisters; Mrs Charles Cecil of Danville and Mrs Alexander Harvey of Baltimore. Mil Funeral services will be held at 4:30 o'clock this afternoon at the Puritan Canon Frank Hardy of Louisville will officiate. The body will he taken to Danville Ky Tuesday morning for burial
