Levi Armistead Bennett was born to Miles and Laura Jordan Bennett in 1850. Month unknown. Levi had 4 other siblings.
W. Monroe, Cynthia Faith, Richard, and Permelia.

He was the grandson of Armistead and Faith Bennett of Grapeland, Houston Co. Texas. Also, Levi and Cynthia Jourdan of Anderson Co. Texas.

Great-grandson of Joseph and Elizabeth Estes Jourdan of Anderson Co., Fort Houston, Texas. Joseph Jourdan gave 500 acres to build Fort Houston to protect its citizens from Indian attacks at the time.

Levi married Emma Conaway on December 18, 1882. Levi was listed as a Deputy Sheriff of Elkhart in several newspaper articles of the time. Fannie Lee Bennett Walling also stating the fact about her father Levi.

Levi and Emma had a daughter Fannie Lee born December 29, 1883.

Emma preceded Levi in death. She was still alive on April 24, 1884, dying after that. No date is known.

Shooting Affray Near Elkhart--One of the Parties Wounded

Palestine, June 14--On yesterday (Sunday) near the town of Elkhart, in this county, Levi Bennett, a white citizen of the county, went to the home of two men by the name of Walker, who lived on Mr. Bennett's place, where the diffulty took place between said party. Bennett, in order to defend himself against the attack of both men, used his pistol, and in doing so wounded one of the men seriously if not fatally. The other seized an Enfield rifle and fired one shot at Bennett, and then mounting his horse came to Palestine and reported the difficulty to Sherriff Davis, who upon the mans own admission that he had shot at Bennett, arrested and jailed him. the case will come up before the justice court to-morrow for examination.

8/25/1881 Galveston Newspaper--

Palestine August 24,-Deputy Sheriff Bennett, of this county, made an important arrest yesterday. He captured a black man named Ira Cooper, about 5 miles from town, who was driving ten head of cattle which he had stolen fron the neighborhood of Huntsville. Cooper was a bad man, and lived formerly in Walker County, lately near Tyler. He made no resistance, for Bennett has him covered at once. He said someone gave him the cattle, but the owner came today and says they were stolen from a pasture. Cooper will be turned over to Walker County authorities.

Fannie Lee Bennett married John Randolph Walling
December 1902. Both are buried Garden of Memories
Cemetery, Elkhart Texas.
