Dennis Todd Haugen was born Feb. 2, 1970, in Duluth, Minn., the son of Hubert and Doris (Rasmussen) Haugen. He was raised in Mayville until 1981 when the family moved to Dickinson and he graduated from Dickinson High School in 1988. Following high school, he joined the North Dakota National Guard.ABERDEEN - Jeanne (Ficek), 39, and Dennis Haugen, 39, Aberdeen and formerly of Dickinson, N.D., died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, in Aberdeen. Jeanne Marie Ficek was born April 29, 1970, at Fargo, N.D., the daughter of Ronald and Sandy (Kadrmas) Ficek. She was raised in Dickinson where she attended the Catholic grade schools and graduated from Dickinson High School in 1988. She went on to attend Moorhead (Minn.) State University, transferring to Memphis State in Tenn., and then to the University of Mary in Bismarck where she graduated with a BS Degree in Mass Communications.
Jeanne and Dennis were married Nov. 25, 1989, in Memphis. They have lived in Aberdeen for the past 15 years. Jeanne had worked in Communications at Presentation College and the past 10 years at the American News. Dennis worked as a parts man, most recently at Artz Farm Equipment.
Jeanne and Dennis loved the art of tattoos and added new ones often. They enjoyed using their laptop to stay connected to family. Along with Shaun, the three of them worked feverishly for two days with little rest to prepare a pictorial tribute to their nephew Luke who recently died. Sharing their love of computer and love of family in developing and copying these CDs will be a cherished memory. While Dennis loved NASCAR and was a big Jeff Gordon fan, Jeanne enjoyed cats. She didn't own any currently, but has more than 30 tattooed on her someplace, Richter said. She also enjoyed volunteering for Relay For Life, the March of Dimes and the Celebrity Pheasant Hunt. The hunt was especially important to her because proceeds go to Camp Gilbert, which is designed for children with diabetes.
Jeanne had type 1 diabetes. Jeanne and Dennis are survived by their son Shaun; their parents, Ron and Sandy Ficek, Dickinson, and Hubert and Doris Haugen, Collierville, Tenn.; Dennis' sisters, Char Helgeson, East Grand Forks, Minn., and Javayne (Marty) Oyloe, Williston; Jeanne's brothers, Jeff (Ruth Heley) Ficek and Josh (Michelle) Ficek, Dickinson; Dennis' brother, Ken (Suzanne) Haugen, Savannah, Tenn.; five nephews; three nieces; one great-nephew; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. They were preceded in death by their grandparents; nephew, Luke Oyloe; and cats too numerous to name. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to an educational fund for Shaun. Mass of Christian Burial for Jeanne and Dennis will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Dickinson, with Fr. Chris Kadrmas as celebrant and Fr. Jeff Zwack con-celebrating. Inurnment will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, New Hradec.
