JEFFERSONVILLE EVENING NEWS OBITUARY - 06/04/2009
A funeral Mass for Maurice B. Ahern, 74, of Jeffersonville, will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Jeffersonville, with burial in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Jeffersonville. He died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 25, 1934, in Louisville. He was a retired senior chief from the Navy and retired from civil service from Amphibious Base Little Creek in Norfolk, Va. He proudly served our country in the Navy, having served in Vietnam and the Korean conflict. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffersonville, the American Legion of Virginia Beach, Va., and the Fleet Reserve Association. Survivors include his wife, Patricia A. Ahern; a son, Gary M. Ahern, of Richmond, Va.; three stepsons Stewart R. Johnson and his wife, Karen, of New Albany, Greg D. Johnson, of Clarksville, and Mike W. Johnson and his wife, Kim, of Greenville; daughter, Leigh Ann Dodson and her husband, John, of Clay City, Ky.; brother, Desmond Ahern and his wife, Sue, of Louisville; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Ahern and Bridget Francis Ahern; his first wife, Carolyn Ahern; a son, Brennan Ahern; and a brother, Kevin Ahern. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Coots Funeral Home, Jeffersonville. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Augustine Catholic Church or the Navy Memorial Fund, in Washington, D.C.
