According to information to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Abbott of Harrisville, formerly of this city, their son, Boatswain's Mate Second Class, George Lynn Abbott, 20, USN, has been killed in action.

Bluejacket Abbott was a native of Norwich where he was born April 27, 1924. While no specific details have been given, the navy's casualty officer indicated that the young sailor met death at sea, asserting the body had not been recovered. Date of the action is not revealed and next of kin are not privileged to reveal the identity of the ship to which he was assigned.

Abbott was attending Harrisville high school when he enlisted in June 1941. After basic training at Newport, he was transferred to Norfolk, Va. He was assigned to sea duty in Sept. 1942 and participated in the African invasion, Nov. 8 of that year. Last home in November 1943, Abbott had then received a citation for meritorious conduct under fire. His engagement to Miss Greta LaPar of Harrisville was announced in December 1942.

Also surviving is his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Florence Abbott of Beaver Meadow and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Geoge Merritt of 3 Waite Street this city. (Published in the Telegraph Friday, June 23, 1944)
