A Terrible Accident.
R. A. Cowden of Huntingdale, Henry County, as mentioned in Tuesday’s Mail, met with a terrible accident Monday morning. His grandson took a double barreled shot gun down to shoot a chicken. One barrel failed to discharge. When he returned to the house Mr. Cowden took the gun, and was picking powder into the tube when the load was discharged, taking effect in his left leg below the knee. (graffic details deleted) Dr. Britts of Clinton amputated the leg. Cowden is in his 84th year and it is thought the accident will prove fatal.
