Charles Prather Ferguson, son of Charles Sturgis and Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Prather, was born on October 8, 1878, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He married Mary Esther Jacobs on October 23, 1901, in Marion, Indiana. They had at least two daughters during their marriage. The eldest, Sarah Jean, did not live past ten years. Mary Esther died in 1928. The following year, Charles married Ruby E. (Lacy) Newkirk, a divorcee. Charles worked for much of his life for a shoe company. Charles' daughter, Mary Lee, lived with her father and stepmother through 1940. A fatal victim of a tornado, Charles died on May 11, 1953, in Waco, Texas, at the age of 74, and is buried there, beside his wife, Ruby, in Oakwood Cemetery.

Charles Prather Ferguson, of Route 7, Waco, died at 2:35 p.m. Monday in a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in Wilkirson and Hatch Chapel, Dr. W. W. Melton officiating, burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
Survivors: His widow of Waco; one daughter, Miss Mary Lee Ferguson with the Red Cross in Manila; one brother, Harry T. Ferguson; an aunt, Mrs. Oscar Johnson; several neices and nephews, all of Jeffersonville, Ind.
