Services for Violet Ruby Southard of Mountain Home will be at 2 pm today at Roller Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. David Johnson officiating. Mrs. Southard died Sunday (May 13, 2001) at Baxter Regional Medical Center. She was 90.
She was born May 18, 1910 at Creswell to the late Dr. Frank and Nellie Jones. She married the late Herman Southard on Feb. 29, 1932 at Izard Co. She lived in Mountain Home since 1963, moving from Calico Rock.
Mrs. Southard owned and operated the former Eastside Market. She enjoyed crocheting and watching TV and visiting with friends. She was a member of the Rodney Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Gerry Moody and husband, Bob, of Mountain Home; four brothers, Ed Jones of Roland, Bill Jones of Benton, Herbert Jones of Tallahassee, Fla., and Arlis Jones of Wenachee, Wash.; one sister, Zella Hall of Paul's Valley, Okla.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Frank and Nellie Jones; her husband, Herman Southard; and one brother.
Visitation will be from 9 am to 2 pm today at Roller Funeral Home with the family present from 1 to 2 pm.
Burial will be at Hand Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Doyle Southard, Dale Adams, Rayburn Adams, Dois Rand, Hale Moody, and Jerry Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Gaylon Southard, James Jones, Larry Jones, James Southard, J. R. Knowles, Fred Sifford, Roe Moody, Sandy Rand, and Ken Russell.
