Arlis Ambrose Jones

Wenatchee, WA

Arlis Ambrose Jones, of Wenatchee, WA, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2012. He was born September 22, 1912, to John Franklin Jones and Nellie Jane (Sinden) Jones at Jumbo, AR. He received his early education through the local schools there. He had a sharp memory of those days. His young mother was the victim of the Flu epidemic that swept the nation in 1918. He and his siblings were blessed with a kind and gentle step-mother, who guided their steps through childhood. In 1932, he was married to Ruby Ersie Hall and started their family. They moved to Pauls Valley, OK, where they joined other friends and family in sharecropping during the Depression years. In the ensuing years, he moved his family through several occupations. In December of 1943, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. He was sent to Italy, where he served with the 5th Army (under General Mark Clark) through Sicily, Naples and Anzio, where he earned two Bronze Stars along with a treasured Letter of Commendation from President Harry S. Truman. In 1951, he moved his family to Wenatchee, where he worked for the American Fruit Company (Birchmount Orchards) until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, canning and sharing lots of fresh vegetables and jellies. Friends and peers knew he was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed. He was baptized into the Christ faith.

Arlis was preceded in death by his parents; one beloved daughter, Brenda Miller; two brothers, Carroll Jones and Edmund Jones; two sisters, Violet and Zola; one grandson, Michael Boatman; and one great-grandson, Kyle Shriver. He is survived by four daughters, Rudine Jones of Wenatchee, Norma Bakeman of Idaho, Billie Shriver of Seattle and Catherine Caddy of Cave Creek, AZ; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, William "Bill" Jones of Little Rock, AZ and Herbert (Rudell) Jones of Tallahassee, FL; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

At his request, there will be No Funeral Services. There will be a Private Family Visitation and Interment will be private at Wenatchee Veterans Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Blossom Creek Memory Care and Dr. Toby Long for his friendship and service for many years. In his own words, "I have been blessed during my long life on earth, I love you all ~ THE BEST IS YET TO COME."
