Martha P. Windsor, 96, of Alma Center died Monday, July 6, 2009, at Pine View Care Center, Black River Falls.
Martha was born Jan. 25, 1913, in Chippewa Falls to Henry and Mary (Hazelbausch) Frerking. On Aug. 19, 1934, she married Alvin Windsor in Chippewa Falls. Following her marriage, the couple lived in Black River Falls. They moved to Chippewa Falls during World War II, where her husband was employed in the war effort. Following the war, they moved to the South Alma area, where they farmed for many years.
Martha loved to cook and bake, and when their children were grown, she was employed as a baker at the Black River Cafe and at Grouchy's in Black River Falls. In addition to cooking and baking, she enjoyed spending time gardening and canning and took great pleasure in feeding her family in abundance. She was a very family-oriented person and especially enjoyed doting on her grandchildren. Reading and flower gardening were other special pastimes of Martha's.
Martha is survived by her son, James Windsor of Waukesha; her daughter, Delores "Dee" Mayer of Merrillan; her daughter-in-law, Lynn Windsor of Alma Center; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, on Oct. 2, 1977; her son Fred Windsor in 2001; two brothers, Henry and Tony; four sisters, Mary, Frances, Louise and Minnie; and by her daughter-in-law, Christine Windsor.
Funeral services for Martha P. Windsor will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church in Alma Center, with the Rev. Steven Stork officiating. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, and at the church Saturday one hour prior to services.
Casket bearers will be Martha's grandsons, Christopher Mayer, Joseph Mayer III, Bill Windsor, David Windsor, Kenneth Windsor, Patrick Windsor and Peter Windsor.
