5B7D3F5--- Henry Middleton Applegate enlisted at Fort Bayard, Trenton, New Jersy on September 12th 1864 in the United States Union Army, Company I, 38th Regiment Volunteers Infantry. They left by detachments to City Point, Virginia.
The 38th was attatched to The Army of The James. Henry participated in the final assaults on Peterburg, Virginia and then was assigned garrison duty at Fort Powhatan, James River until April 1865. Then moved to City Point, Va. Henry served until the conclusion of the war. The 38th was mustered out June 30,1865 at City Point. Henry was honorable discharged and walked home to New Jersey. He was greeted by his second wife Mary and seven of his children.
Four more children to come later with his 3rd wife Adelaide.

Gravesite Details

buried between his Eckman's in laws, his 2nd & 3rd wifes were Eckman cousins. A stone Civil War military marker is in place.
