Nichols- Martin L. Christofferson, 89, of Nichols, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at the Lone Tree Care Center following an extended illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at the Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty, with Lyle Beaver officiating. Burial will be in the Nichols Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at the Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Mr. Christofferson was born Feb. 26, 1910, in Nichols, the son of Nels and Murney McHenry Christofferson.

He had farmed in the Nichols area and later worked as a laborer, working during the building of Interstate 80, logging and on the Mississippi River.

Survivors include one son, Dewayne Christofferson of Austin, Texas; four daughters, Mary Soukup of Windham, Lois Cordwell of Muscatine, Nancy Christofferson of Lockhart, Texas, and Kelly Demuynck of Sacramento, Calif; two sisters Iola Coss and Jessie Ulch, both of Muscatine; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.
