Rudolph J. Paulsen, 87, a native of New Holstein and a resident of the Calumet Homestead for the past eight years, died Wednesday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton. He had been hospitalized for a month.
Born March 26, 1884, in the Town of New Holstein, he was a son of the late Adolph and Emma Edens Paulsen. He attended local schools and Milwaukee Business College. A farmer most of his life, Mrs. Paulsen taught school in the town of Eaton in 1905-06.
On Oct 6, 1909 he married the former Minnie Arens in New Holstein. She died Oct 27, 1962.
For 27 years Mr. Paulsen served as a school board clerk, and from 1917 to 1918 he was Town of New Holstein treasurer. He served as the town clerk from 1920 to 1939. From 1939 to 1958 he was secretary of the Calumet County Mutual Fire Insurance Co. He was a treasurer and trustee of the New Holstein Cemetery Association, 1938 to 1954, and a charter member of the New Holstein Historical Society.
Survivors include three sons, Milton of LaCrosse, Norman of Racine and Elmer of New Holstein; a daughter, Mrs. Harry (Rola) Franson of Van Dyne; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and a brother, Alfred of New Holstein. Two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at St. John UCC, New Holstein, with the Rev. Albert K. Borns, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the New Holstein Cemetery.
