Helen M. Smith of West, a longtime mill worker died Wednesday in a West nursing home. She was 85.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, the Rev. Isadore Rozycki as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 4, 1906, in McLennan County and was a longtime West resident. She married Albert C. Smith in 1926 in West; he died Feb. 9, 1965.

Mrs. Smith worked in the West Textile Mill, the Burlington Mill and Hillsboro Mill for more than 40 years, retiring in 1968. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West and the Ladies Altar Society.

Survivors include two daughters, Marcie A. Herring of Gholson and Lillie M. Shumate of Waco; two sisters, Louise Duncan of West and Pauline Whitfield of Itasca; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family has designated West Rest Haven Memorial Fund for memorials.

Helen M. Smith, age 85, of West, passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 6, 1991 at West Rest Haven.

Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Isidore Rozycki as celebrant. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith was born February 4, 1906 in McLennan County, the daughter of Paul and Mary Miller. She lived in the West area all her life. she married Albert G. Smith in 1926 in West. He preceded her in death onn February 9, 1965. She was a housewife and homemaker. she worked for the West Textile Mill, Burlington Mill and the Hillsboro Mill for more than 40 years before retiring in 1966. she was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church. She was also a member of the ladies Altar Society.

She is survived by two daughters, Marcie A. Herring of Gholson and Lillie M. Shumate of Waco; two sisters, Louise Duncan of West and Pauline Whitfield of Itasca; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Jack Herring, Rick Herring, Ben Sadler, Bill Miller, Robert Miller and Patrick Miller.

Memorials may be made to the West Rest Haven Memorial Fund.
