Obituary for Dorothy V. McLavey Dorothy Virginia McLavey, 87, of Tripoli, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Regional Medical Center, Manchester, Iowa.
Dorothy was born July 9, 1922 in Fayette County, IA, the daughter of Russell and Minerva (Lockard) Pierce. On June 11, 1941, Dorothy was united in marriage to Gail McLavey in Fayette County, Iowa. He passed away on December 24, 1985.

In 1940, Dorothy graduated from the Arlington High School, Arlington, IA. Following their marriage, Dorothy and Gail farmed in the rural Wadena area. In 1949 they moved to Waterloo. The couple opened Mac's New and Used Furniture. In 1961, Dorothy and Gail moved to Frederika and started the D and G Café and Grocery Store while farming. In 1968, the couple moved to Tripoli and opened a cabinet shop and upholstery business. Most recently, Dorothy was living in Strawberry Point at the Lutheran Home.

Dorothy was a member of Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli. She enjoyed the Women's Circle and Bible Study. During her free time, Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, travelling, crocheting afghans and her grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by five children, Lowell (JoAnne) of Henderson, CO., Roger (Barb) of Tripoli, Janice Whiteside of Allison, Sharon McLavey of Tripoli, and Janet McLavey (Jeff Luebbers) of Sumner. She is also survived by Kenneth Loftus (son-in-law), Jim Olsen (brother-in-law), and Lois Pierce (sister-in-law). She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one daughter, Lois Jean Loftus; one grandson, Richard Joseph Loftus; and one step-grandson, Rich Maas. Also brothers Raymond, Harold (Tued), sisters June Olsen, Wanda Buhr, and Charlotte Hoffman.

Services are Monday, March 8th, at 10:30 am, at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli, with burial at Faith United Church of Christ Cemetery, Tripoli, IA., with Reverend Marilyn Sargent officiating. Public visitation will be Sunday, March 7th, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Faith United Church of Christ, 408 South Main Street, Tripoli, IA. Memorials may be given to the family for future charities.
