Geert Abma, 72, of 337 E. Southside Court, died at 6:45 p.m. Sunday at his home. He was a native of the Netherlands, moved to Louisville as a youth and, after retiring from the Army in 1953, worked for the Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co. as a production worker for 13 years, retiring in 1966. He was a member of the Larchmont Church of God and the Vine Grove (Ky.) Masonic Lodge 603. He is survived by his wife, the former Bessie Frances Young, two daughters, Mrs. Carole Luther and Mrs. Yvonne Fritze; a son, Loren Abma, and six grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Arch L. Heady Southern Funeral Home, 3601 Taylor Blvd., with entombment in Evergreen Mausoleum. The family requests that any expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
