James A. Delong, age 72,
of Interlaken, died unexpectedly on Monday, June 8, 2009.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Friday, June 12, 2009 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main Street, Ovid. Private burial services will be held at Fair View Cemetery in Sheldrake. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Jim's memory to the South Seneca Ambulance Corps, PO Box 280, Ovid, NY 14521.
Jim was born at the family home in the Town of Ovid, a son of the late Frank and Cecil (Hilkert) Delong. He has been a lifetime resident of the area and was self employed as a truck driver and scrap hauler. He lived each day with a positive attitude, and would take on a job with a smile and a handshake, and then step quickly to the next task. He was a loving father and grandfather, and made a point to find time in his busy schedule for his large extended family.
He is survived by his children, Brian S. (Ines) Delong of Hector, Patrick J. (Betty) Delong of Hector, Dale A. Delong of Montour Falls, and Pamela A. (Scott) Delong Whitmore of Raleigh, NC; 5 granddaughters, 5 grandsons; his siblings, Winfield, Frank and Guy Delong and Blanche Christiansen, Bernice Coleman, Bertha Ferris and Frances Steen and their families; the mother of his children, Dawn Moore. Jim was preceded in death by his siblings, Marcus and Clyde Delong and Beatrice Rosecrans.
