James Dibble served in the 94th AAF Fighter Squadron during World War II.On Sept. 9,1943,Lt. Dibble's squadron was ordered to attack a convoy of 400 vehicles on the road between Pola and Lagonegro,south of Salerno,Italy.Flying at 50 feet above the ground,his P-38G was hit by ground fire,causing a crash,which killed him.
