CHERRYVALE -- Earl Rand "Randy" Trout Jr., 60, of Cherryvale died at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.

He was born Sept. 10, 1948, at Parsons to Earl R. and Anna Lee (Trammell) Trout. He lived on the family farm near Galesburg and attended Galesburg Elementary School, Labette County Community High School, where he graduated in May 1966, and Labette Community College, graduating in 1968 with an associate of arts degree. He graduated from Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa in 1969 with a mechanic's license and an airplane inspector's license.

He married Betty Cheryl Tackett on June 22, 1969, at the former Washington Avenue Methodist Church in Parsons. They recently celebrated 40 years of marriage together.

He joined the U.S. Army on March 19, 1970, and served as an air traffic controller in Vietnam. He and his family then moved to Coffeyville, where they were co-owners of Coffeyville Aircraft at the airport. They moved to their current home in rural Cherryvale, which he built, in 1983. He has flown as a corporate pilot for LaForge and Budd Construction Co. of Parsons and later became the corporate pilot for Power Flame Inc., continuing in that position until his illness. At the time of his death, he was co-owner of Parsons Aviation Inc. and also managed the Parsons Tri-City Airport.

He enjoyed many outdoor activities and was an avid runner, entering several competitive races over the years.

He was a member of Friendship Southern Baptist Church in Parsons, where he was a Sunday school teacher, deacon chairman and financial secretary. He touched many lives during his time on Earth and was a loving husband, father and grandpa. He stood up for what he believed in and was an example to all. He will be greatly missed.

Randy is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; two sons and their families, Brian Trout and his wife, Julie, their sons, Christian and Jonathan, of Bolivar, Mo., Terry Trout and his wife, Tonya, and their daughters, Amanda, Leann and Renee, of Independence; his father, Earl R. Trout Sr. of Galesburg; two sisters, Jan King and her husband, Jay, of Valparaiso, Ind., and Keri Lee and her husband, Larry, of Alto, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Anne Trout; and his brother, Jon Kimrey Trout.

The service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Walter Keener and Albert Schaper officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military honors given by the Fort Riley Funeral Detail. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Friendship Southern Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 942, Parsons, 67357.
