Shelton, Benjamin Franklin "Pete" Shelton, 81, of Manchester, Tennessee died Monday, October 1, 2001 at Coffee Medical Center. A native of McMinn County, Tennessee he was the son of the late Samuel White Shelton and Viola Harden Shelton. He was owner of C&S Trading Company for 30 years and the first manager of Coffee County COOP. He was a Charter Member of Rotary and a WWII Naval Lieutenant serving in the Mediterranean Theater of War. He was a 1969 Tennessee Small Business Man of the Year and was known throughout Middle Tennessee for his Agricultural Expertise. He enjoyed golfing, was an avid gardener and loved watching his grandchildren participate in their sports activities. He was preceded in death by his siblings, James, Mary, Sam, Katherine, John, Dave, Bob and Paul. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Inez Shelton, Manchester; two sons, Michael E. Shelton, Manchester, Peter C. Shelton, Manchester; two daughters, Anne Marie Pender, Decherd, Tennessee, Betsy Shelton Zielke, Port Washington, Wisconsin; one brother, Joe Shelton, Athens, Tennessee; fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 4, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mark Catholic Church Father John Kirk officiating. Burial was at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to the church of your choice. Coffee County Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
