Ray's father (Robert Edward Keech) died when he was just 10 months old. He was raised by his father's brother & his wife (Charles & Sarah Keech).

Ray lost his life on the board track of Altoona just two weeks after his Indianapolis 500 win.

Married Sarah Ann "Sadie" Stinger (Dec. 12, 1902 - Nov. 30, 1990),
Had one son, Charles Raymond Keech, Jr. (1923-1944).

They both witnessed his death on the track.
