Josephus M. Giltner, a pioneer resident and highly respected citizen, was born April 21 1825, and passed away to his eternal home at 9:00 P.M. Sunday evening July 1 1917, Aged 92 years, 2 months, and 10 days. At the age of fourteen he united with the Presbyterian church and a few years later he changed his membership to the Methodist, in which faith he remained faithful until death. He was a devoted man, who loved his God, his church, and his fellowman.

He was married March 9 1848 to Elizabeth Bare, to which union were born 5 children;Jacob, Henry, Lizzie, Samuel J. and Terzah. Jacob, Henry nd Terzah having passed to their reward previous to their father's death. After the death of his first wife, he was married December 26 1867 to Nancy J. Hutchings and on the 24th of April 1870 married to Eliza J. Hammond. To this union were born 5 children, William F, Maggie,Julia,David, Belle. William F, the eldest having departed this life years ago.

He is survived by his aged campanion, six children, Samuel G. Giltner,Mrs Lizzie Tafflinger,Mrs Maggie Smith, Mrs George D. Giltner,David L Giltner, and Mrs Belle Bower. One sister Mrs. Tirzah Hays of Scottsburg, twenty five grandchildren, fifteen Great Grandchildren.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev R.J. Cinder, and interment was in the Mt Zion Cemetery.
