Wilson was born in Gallup and then moved to Blackfoot, Idaho, where he spent most of his life.
In 1962, he married Elaine Lozeau and together they had three children. They were later divorced. In 1968, Wilson married JoAnn Etsitty in Blackfoot. Together they had five children. They later divorced in 1985.
Wilson worked for Nonpareil from 1968 to 1985. He also farmed for Jerry Twiggs, Robert Reed and Garth VanOrden. He was a welder for Kurk Manufacturing for some time. In his free time, Wilson enjoyed silversmithing and working with metal.
Wilson was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Leo.
Wilson is survived by his sons, Norman Adakai of Blackfoot, Norbert Adakai of Blackfoot, Raymond Adakai of Glenns Ferry, Steven Adakai of Blackfoot, Joseph (Shelby) Adakai of Blackfoot and Gardell Wilson Adakai of Fort Hall; daughters, Melissa Adakai of Idaho Falls, Laura (Aaron) Moon of Blackfoot, and Tammy (Todd) Leavitt of Blackfoot; brother Edison Adakai Sr. of Fort Hall; sisters, Alice Adakai of Blackfoot, Fannie (Lee) Benally of New Mexico and Grace (Johnie) Begay of New Mexico; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Riverside-Thomas Cemetery under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Ave. in Blackfoot, (208) 785-1320.
