Caporal
3e Régiment d'infanterie de marine

Corporal
3rd Marine Infantry Regiment
Aged 22, from Dinan (Côtes-d'Armor), France

He deployed the previous month to serve with the French contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Cpl Bodin was killed in a firefight during an operation to support the Afghan army in the Ghayne Valley northeast of Kabul. The fighting had lasted nearly an hour and a half. Two other French soldiers were injured and taken to hospital in Kabul.

Cpl Bodin enlisted in February 2006 and served missions in Côte d'Ivoire in 2006-2007 and Kosovo in 2008. He was passionate about motorcycles, ATVs and motocross. His mother said, "Anthony was a bon vivant, he did not deserve to die. He had gone to Afghanistan on July 6 and had promised to return for Christmas. He never missed a family party."

He is survived by his mother Christine, two younger brothers, and other family and friends.

He was posthumously promoted to Master Corporal and awarded the insignia of chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in a military ceremony held August 6, 2009 in Vannes. He was later buried after a religious service in Dinan.
