Wendy Henry reported that Mac had a store and possibly a saw mill, since he dealt in lumber. Often neighbors would bring in such articles as deer, wild turkey, "possum", and the like. He was active in politics and served as Justice of the Peace, performing marriages for some of his family. He served on the Election Board in 1854. He made coffins, charging $2.50 and $3.00. On December 12, 1883, he received a commission from Martin County to furnish coffins for the burial of paupers for a period of one year, by Lewis Brooks, Auditor and J. E. Walker, Deputy.
