Orangeburg - Mrs. Essie Lou Rutland, widow of Carlos Clarence Rutland, died Friday in an Orangeburg hospital.
Funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Thompson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rutland was born Nov. 5, 1901, in Orangeburg County, a daughter of the late Hiram and Dollie Davis Baltzegar. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church.
Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Shirley (Ralph) Lovern and Mrs. Juanita (Robert) Branham, both of Orangeburg; one son, Leland L. Rutland of Orangeburg; her step-mother, Mrs. Hattie O. Baltzegar of Daytona Beach, Fla; three sisters, Mrs Donald Finkell and Mrs. S.J. Bloom, both of Daytona Beach, Fla., Mrs. Willie Lawson of Columbia; three brothers, Clemmia Baltzegar of Orangeburg, Grover Baltzegar and Paul Baltzegar, both of Daytona Beach, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
