Daniel Nield, known as "Danny," was a Corporal with the British Army, serving with the 1st Battalion of the Rifles, attached to a Fire Support Team from the 29th Commando Regiment Royal Artillery. He was killed in a hostile explosion under enemy fire, caused by a rocket-propelled grenade. He was 31. He had previously served in Bosnia, Northern Ireland, and Kosovo, and was on his second tour of Afghanistan. He also took part in global excercises, which included: Arizona, Botswania, Belize, Canada, Cyprus, Kenya, and Kuwait. He worked alongside with the Afghan National Army. He had attended Pittville School in Chettenham, England, where he joined the Army Cadets at age 13. In 1993 he joined the Army Careers Office. In 2000 he completed the Junior Non-Commissioned Officer Cadre, and in 2001, the Mortar NCO Standard Course. He had left the Army in 2004, but rejoined in 2006. In 2007 he passed the Forward Air Controllers Course. He was survived by: His parents, Sheila and Peter Nield, two sisters, Emily and Kimberly, and a brother, Anthony Nield.
