CARL AUGUST GAENSSLEN

A mass of Christian burial for Carl August Gaensslen was celebrated Saturday, June 20, 1992 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Green River. Father Angel Ornelas officiated. A vigil service with rosary was celebrated Friday, June 19, at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel in Green River. Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery.

Gaensslen, 82, of 290 Sunset St., Green River, died at 8:43 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 1992 at the Cottonwood Hospital in Salt Lake City where he had been a patient since June 11.

A longtime resident of Green River and former resident of Boise, Idaho, Pueblo, Colo., and Torrington, Gaensslen had been in ill health the past two and one-half weeks.

He was born April 3, 1910 in Green River, the son of the late Emil and Eleanor Eggs Gaensslen. He attended schools in Green River and was a graduate of the Green River High School with the class of 1927.

Gaensslen was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in mechanical engineering with the class of 1931.

He married the former Fern Jones in Brighton, Colo., Feb. 4, 1935.

He worked for the Wyoming State Engineer’s Office and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Engineering for several years after college. In 1937 Gaensslen began a long career with the Bureau of Reclamation, serving in offices in El Paso, Texas, Dalhart, Texas, Pueblo, and Boise. He retired in 1967 and moved back to Green River in 1968.

Gaensslen was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Green River. He was also a member of the Sweetwater County and Wyoming Historical Societies and the University of Notre Dame 50 Year Club.

Survivors include his wife, Fern Gaensslen of Green River; one son, Robert Gaensslen of Woodbridge, Conn.; one sister, Eleanor Schofield of Laramie; one granddaughter, Elvira Gaensslen of Long Island, N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Helen Gaensslen of Green River and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gaensslen was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. E.A. Gaensslen who died June 1, 1979.
