Thomas Dowdy(1774-1859) was a leader in May's Chapel Baptist Church, formerly George's Creek Church, where he was possibly buried.
He married Sarah Riddle.

Some Dowdy family researchers say that there were two Thomas Dowdys about the same age who were contemporaries in Chatham County, North Carolina, apparently related to one another and whose families are often confused.
One Thomas Dowdy is said to have married Lucy Hubbard of Essex County, Virginia, while the other married first Elizabeth Parsons and second to Mrs. Rebecca Poe.
Other researchers show one Thomas Dowdy with three wives.
Some researchers show Lucy Poe, wife of Thomas Dowdy, as the daughter of Simon Poe and Sarah Bradford and the widow of Richard Herndon while others show her as the widow of Lucy Poe Herndon’s brother William Poe.
I suggest studying the Dowdy Branches website to sort out what is known about these Dowdy families.
