Obit: He had been in poor health for some time, his condition was not known to be serious until a few days before his death. Frederick Jackson Thompson, son of Thomas Bennett and Eliza (Grace) Thompson, was born November 2, 1856, in Nicollet County, Minnesota, having the distinction of being the first white child born in that county. During the Indian massacre, the family was driven from their home and returned to Allen's Grove, Scott County, Iowa, where they had formerly resided. In 1876 when Fred was a young man, he saddled his horse and rode into Crawford County where he met his future wife. On January 10, 1878, Frederick married Susan Belle Sterrett on "Pretty Prairie" in Crawford County, Iowa, where the family settled in 1871. There were twelve children born to this union, two dying in infancy. An unusual circumstance relative to the passing of Mr. Thompson and also of his companion who died September 6, 1932, was that all ten of their children were with them when the end of their earthly career was reached. This was typical of their past home life as they were never happier than when surrounded by family and many happy reunions were held, among them being the celebration of their golden wedding anniversary in 1928. Mr. Thompson had made his home with his daughter, Maude Wight, for eight months prior to his death on Thursday, October 12, 1933, at the age of 76 years, 11 months, and 10 days. Funeral services were held in the M.E. church with Elder Fred Fey of Woodbine, assisted by Rev. W.H. Cable, pastor of the local church officiating. The many friends and relatives filled the building to overflowing which manifest in a small degree the respect in which the departed was held. The body was laid to rest beside his wife in Dow City Cemetery.
