Amalia Miller, 91, of Sterling, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998 in Sterling.
Visitation and viewing are from noon until 8 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 29, at Chaney-Walters Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sterling, with the Rev. Michael Paulison officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Miller was born on Jan. 17, 1907 in Grim, Russia to Conrad and Anna (Reizelstein) Sthuppe. The family came to the United States in 1914 and settled in Waterloo, Iowa. In 1917 they moved to Sterling. She attended Sterling schools through the 6th grade, at which time it was the custom to stop her education and begin work aS a housekeeper to help support the family.
On Feb. 22, 1928 she married John Miller, Jr. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sterling. They farmed in Crook, Sterling, and the Hillrose areas.
In January 1968 they retired from farming and moved back to Sterling. She enjoyed gar dening and crafts. She was a faithful charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a dedicated member of Ladies Aid.
For the past three years Mrs. Miller lived at Devonshire acres.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband, John Miller, Jr. of Sterling; a son, Edwin Miller of Brush; four brothers, three from Sterling, August Schuppe, Alex Schuppe and wife Esther, and Harry Schuppe and wife Laura, and one brother from Iliff, Albert Schuppe and wife Rachel; five sisters, Frieda Staley from Fort Morgan, Helen Hettinger and husband Alex from Atwood; and three sisters from Sterling, Mary Amen and husband John, Lucille Stumpf and husband Gene, and Mildred Eisenach and husband Gene; seven grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren, one great-great- grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mildred Jean Burkholder, and a brother, William Schuppe.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in her name.
